Autobiography and Feminism

A current heated debate is that of feminism and autobiography. Throughout the feminist movements in the East and the West, autobiography played an influential role in promoting feminist issues. Autobiography was not considered a genre written by women. In essence, it was a genre highly favored by women. Autobiographies were a mode that reflects feminist views throughout the feminist waves. In the West and the Arab World autobiography is a medium of self-expression, self-critique, self-contradiction, self-doubt, selfhood, self-reflexivity, self-representation, and self-understanding. Studying autobiography written by women is a current important trend in feminist literary criticism.
