The impairment in renal excretion of uremia patients can retain several toxins that may inhibit erythropoiesis and reduce the RBC life span A long term exposure of uremia patients to these toxins have the potential to create certain stress on the uremia patients .This stress may complicate the prognosis of these patients by contributing to the generation of cardiovascular disease, chronic inflammation, oxidative stress, and certain modifications of cellular proteins that rendering cellular membranes more vulnerable for oxidation . Anemia is a common complication of uremia patients, which has multifactorial origin including a shortening of the red cell survival by oxidative stress. In the present work; the sensitivity of uremia RBC to hemolysis was examined by investigating their in vitro exposure to several hemolytic agents. Our data revealed a distinctive susceptibility of uremia RBC to the vitro hemolysis, suggesting an inherent fragility of uremia RBC that may arise as a result of their chronic exposure to endotoxins. This finding may help to gain better understanding regarding the factors that trigger the incidence of anemia in uremia patients.
